Don Vito Goes to Washington

The Corleone Foundation: We are legion.

A Deliricum of Wisdom

Despite Mr. Trump’s promotion of blatant falsehoods, many otherwise rational and decent Republicans will continue to dig for that elemental truth that must exist at the heart of his lies, or so they need to believe. Doing that is easier for them than facing the truth of it all, namely that the man they entrusted with representing and defending their interests and values is not simply a charlatan but an enemy, witting or unwitting, of these very interests and values. It’s basic human nature at work here, pure and simple. For this, these rational and decent Trump supporters will continue to treat the criticism and alarmism of Trump's opponents as though they were manifestations of the usual political warfare that has plagued this country since its birth. This is a problem for sure. People caught in such traps are not easily disillusioned. Trump’s opponents cannot, should not and will not for their moment of disillusionment – a development that only their resistance can hasten.

The Delirynth
A rundown of developments from around our labyrinthine world. Readers are advised to constantly remind themselves that we actually do live in the world where these things are happening.

The Corleones in the White House

While the mainstream media focuses on the Russia Gate, for very legitimate reasons, the story concerning Trump’s business interests in the United States and abroad is no less dangerous. In fact, this might a much bigger deal, because even when we assume the best of intentions on the Trump family’s behalf the implications will still be disastrous. There will be rampant corruption as shady interests groups from all and sundry seek to carry favor with the Trumps, and the Trumps seek to expand their business interests into new countries and sectors. For let’s not forget here, the Trumps are actually not armed with the best intentions.

Trump hotel may be political capital of the nation's capital. “The $200 million hotel inside the federally owned Old Post Office building has become the place to see, be seen, drink, network — even live — for the still-emerging Trump set. It's a rich environment for lobbyists and anyone hoping to rub elbows with Trump-related politicos — despite a veil of ethics questions that hangs overhead.”

Trump Hotel in Baku Partnered With ‘Notoriously Corrupt’ Oligarch Family With Ties to Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps With the Baku hotel deal, the Trump Organization may have violated federal corruption laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the New Yorker notes. The heart of the problem seems to be little due diligence before Trump jumped into the project, even though the country is known for being corrupt, his partners were billionaires on a $12,000-a-year-government salary, and corrupt practices were so commonly talked about they litter the State Department cables released by WikiLeaks and featured prominently in a 2014 Foreign Policy piece, “The Corleones of the Caspian.”

As for Russia Gate, the main element in this story here is that Putin is waging war against the U.S. Intelligence reports corroborate that.

Putin ordered election hacking, report says. “We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election,” the report read. “Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump.”

The question regarding collusion n part of the Tramp campaign in aiding some of these activities, including the DNC hacks have been brought about by the unnecessary repeated denials on part of the Trump campaign of contacts with Russian officials. It’s the denials, not the leaks per se, that created this impression of collusion. Now, we just found out that even Mr. Trump seems to have met with the Russian Ambassador to the U.S. despite his denial. Why deny such meetings when people can find myriad legitimate reasons for them?

But more vexing than the denials is the repeated attempt at deflection on part of Mr. Trump. How else can one interpret the latter’s wiretapping accusations against his predecessors, which reportedly made FBI Director, James Comey, dance around the Capitol in his skivvies as a sign of incredulity, and the skivvies, according to reports, were no longer white.

The Corleones of Syria

But while the Trumps are busy taking the Corleone franchise to the White House, the Corleone’s of Syria seem to be losing control over their loyalist militias. No. There’s no mutiny, but the power-sharing arrangements game and the turf-wars that go with them have gotten far more complex that the Assads have little sway over them at this stage. Most loyalist militia leaders are now in direct contact with Iranian and Russian “advisers” and are more beholden to them for their position and power than to the Assads.

In Syria, Patchwork of Forces Control Regime-Held Areas. “The Assad regime relies on state forces and domestic and foreign militias that form a web of fiefs.”

Gangster's Paradise: Assad's Control Erodes as Warlords Gain Upper Hand. “Bashar Assad's power over the areas of Syria under government control is slipping. Armed militias are growing stronger and the country's dictator can do nothing to stop them.”

In the meantime, the U.S. continues to deepen its involvement in the conflict, with a singular focus on ISIS and no clear plan for what might come after. But at least, the U.S. seems to be talking to the Russian and the Turks at this stage.

ЯeveЯsed Polarity (ЯP)
Real headlines, news and comments that strain credulity.

Egypt’s Feared Spy Agency Has Hired Some DC Lobbyists To Clean Up Its Image. “The infamous mukhabarat is paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to PR shop Weber Shandwick and lobbying firm Cassidy and Associates, Treasury documents show.”

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson refers to slaves as “immigrants.” “That’s what America is about. A land of dreams and opportunity,” he said. "There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less.” “But they, too, had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters [and] great-granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”

Except that “they had shackles on their legs.”

The JarKush: A marijuana blend so potent it will make consumers feel like they can achieve peace in the Middle East, an illusion which they will maintain right up until they end up shitting their pants. Despite this embarrassing side-effect, however, the Trump Administration, and contrary to its stand on the consumption of other types of marijuana, is said to have legalized the use of the JarKush through a secret Executive Order.

The Deep State: While political scientists use this term to refer to the phenomenon of having a “state within a state,” deliriologists more often use it to refer to the inherent shittiness that plagues the minds of those often invoking the term, especially when they do so in defense of some wild accusations made by a narcissistic leader. For example: the brains of some Trump supporters are in such a “deep state” they actually believe most of things he says. To be put it in simpler terms, a deep state is a state of affairs perceived only by people whose brains are in deep shit.
